4- Digital: Travel (Monochrome & Color) DT DEFINITIONS Definition of Nature Photography: Nature photography is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict all branches of natural history, except anthropology and archaeology, in such a fashion that a well-informed person will be able to identify the subject material and certify its honest presentation. The story telling value of a photograph must be weighed more than the pictorial quality while maintaining high technical quality. Human elements shall not be present, except where those human elements are integral parts of the nature story such as nature subjects, like barn owls or storks, adapted to an environment modified by humans, or where those human elements are in situations depicting natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves. Scientific bands, scientific tags or radio collars on wild animals are permissible. Photographs of human created hybrid plants, cultivated plants, feral animals, domestic animals, or mounted specimens are ineligible, as is any form of manipulation that alters the truth of the photographic statement. No techniques that add, relocate, replace, or remove pictorial elements except by cropping are permitted. Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photograph without changing the nature story or the pictorial content, or without altering the content of the original scene, are permitted including HDR, focus stacking and dodging/burning. Techniques that remove elements added by the camera, such as dust spots, digital noise, and film scratches, are allowed. Stitched images are not permitted. All allowed adjustments must appear natural. colour images can be converted to greyscale monochrome. Infrared images, either direct- captures or derivations, are not allowed. Images used in Nature Photography competitions may be divided in two classes: Nature and Wildlife. Images entered in Nature sections meeting the Nature Photography Definition above can have landscapes, geologic formations, weather phenomena, and extant organisms as the primary subject matter. This includes images taken with the subjects in controlled conditions, such as zoos, game farms, botanical gardens, aquariums and any enclosure where the subjects are totally dependent on man for food. 2 / 6 Definition of the black and white photography (monochrome): A black and white work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey. A black and white work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category; such a work can be reproduced in black and white in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP Patronage. On the other hand a black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work (polychrome) to stand in the colour category; such a work requires colour reproduction in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP Patronage. CONDITIONS of ENTRY: • The contest is welcome to all amateur and professional photographers all over the world, apart from the Salon Chairman, Jury and the TFSF representative and their first degree link. • The participants who are currently filed under TFSF/PAFT restriction for any of the above defined reasons, or the participants who are on the FIAP red list are not allowed to participate in this contest. • All participants can submit up to 4 (four) photographs for each category. The same image or color or B&W version of the same image cannot be submitted to more than 1 (one) category. • The participants declare and confirm all permissions are taken by them, the work sent for contest is completely his/her own and whole responsibility belongs to them in case of any kind of conflict or disagreement. Adana Amateur Photographers Society (AFAD) will not be held responsible for any conflicts or disagreements. • The participant declares and accepts that any legal issues about his/her photos will be under his/her responsibility only. • If the participant submits a copyright which does not belong to him/her, executes any alterations or changes on the photo that does not belong to him/her to mislead the jury, the participant will be restricted from entering competitions for a year according to the TFSF (Photographic Arts Federation of Turkey) rules. If the participant breaks the rules again, he/she will be restricted from all contests approved under TFSF patronage for an indefinite period. FIAP will be informed about the situation. • Participants agree, declare, and commit that all parts of the image is photographed by the author who is holding the copyright of all works submitted and that they hold the copyright of all such works and have all the necessary permissions, and undertake any responsibilities in relation to these works. The rule violation procedure shall be applied to those participants who act contrary to these statements and consents, and who make any alterations to any photograph with the intention of deceiving the Assessment Committee/Jury. The sanctions set out in Article 13 of the “TFSF/PAFT National/International Contest Regulatory Standards” /contest_regulatory_standards.pdf shall be applied to the participants who violate the rules. In case of detection of any violation of the participation rules, the prize, title and any other gains awarded to such participants shall be withdrawn and the award place shall be left blank. The violation shall be reported to the FIAP. If an award has already been presented to a participant who has violated the rules, the award shall be returned by the participant. Cancellation of a reward shall not give any other participant who has or has not been granted a reward a right to claim an award. • With the sole act of submitting his/her images or files to a salon under FIAP Patronage, the entrant accepts without exception and with no objection that the submitted images can be investigated by FIAP to establish if these obey to FIAP regulations and definitions even if the entrant is not a member of FIAP; that FIAP will use any means at its disposal for this undertaking; that any refusal to cooperate with FIAP or any refusal to submit the original files as captured by the camera, or failure to provide sufficient evidence, will be sanctioned by FIAP and that in case of sanctions following the non-compliance with FIAP regulations, the name of 3 / 6 the entrant will be released in any form useful to inform the breaches of the rules. It is recommended to leave the EXIF data in the submitted files intact in order to ease eventual investigations. • AFAD may request the participants to deliver the original files of the prize-winning photographs or of the photographs that are decided to be exhibited. • The photographs will be presented to the jury in a completely-darkened room, using a projector with Full HD/4K resolution on a screen with a diagonal length of minimum 1 m and maximum 2.5 m, or a 42-55 inch Full HD/4K LCD monitor. • Contest results will be announced on the website of the AFAD:,, and TFSF/PAFT’s websites: , All participants will be notified of the contest results via email. • All awards will be send to award owners by post. AFAD will not be held responsible for damages occurring during transfer. RIGHT OF PUBLICATION AND COPYRIGHT (USE) • The award-winning photographs, the photographs selected for exhibition and those purchased shall be registered in the archive of the AFAD. AFAD shall have the right to use such photographs in any of its publications for promotional purposes by mentioning the name of the photographer. No royalty fee shall be paid to the photographers for such photographs. The name of the photographers will not be used in graphical works such as collages made using these photos. • Without any commercial purpose, The AFAD shall have the right to freely exhibit and use these photographs in any of its publications or printed papers, promotional documents, and other platforms (calendar, agenda, postal cards, catalogues, web pages, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, other electronic communication and recording environments, etc.) without any constraints. The participants irrevocably acknowledge, declare and commit that the permissions given with respect to their works will not be revoked, the use of the works as above will not be prohibited, or any material and moral indemnities or any royalty for the permissions/consents will not be asked for. AFAD will not make any payment of royalties for the permissions/consents to be given by the participants for their works. The usage rights will be held by the owners of the works and by the AFAD. • The participants who submit their work for the contest shall be deemed to have declared and committed that the works submitted for the contest belong to them. AFAD shall not accept any responsibility with regard to the permissions and copyrights for the participants’ photographs. • Any copyright responsibility for the architectural structures, work of art, human faces, etc. that appear on the photographs belongs to the participant. The participants who submit photographs for the contest declare and commit that the necessary permissions with regard to the photographs have already been obtained by them, and that they will assume full responsibility in case of any disputes that may arise in connection with these works. AFAD shall not accept any responsibility in this regard. • Award-winning photographs (prize/medal, honorable mention) shall be announced on the websites of the AFAD ,, TFSF, , and on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) accounts. They shall also be displayed on the pages allocated to our society in the Almanac 2018, a publication of the TFSF. • On the issues that are not addressed in the specifications, the decisions taken by the TFSF Board of Directors and the Organizing Committee shall be applicable together with the TFSF National/International Contest Regulatory Standards Directive. • By signing up on the AFAD website,, and uploading their photographs, the participants are deemed to have accepted the conditions of participating in the contest. This specifications document will become effective as of the date the contestant submits 4 / 6 his/her photograph for the contest. By participation, the contestants are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions of the specifications. Contestants are not entitled to object to the terms and conditions of the specifications at a later date. ENTRY FEE • The entry fee is mandatory for all participants and € 15 for 4 categories. All participants must pay the entry fee. • Turkish participants will pay 50 TL for 4 categories. • The competition has a total of 4 (four) separate categories. Competitors can participate up to 4 (four) photos in each category. The fee can be paid via PayPal or bank account. Photographs containing Photographer’s name, mark, logo, date or signature will be rejected. • Name of the file must be maximum 31 characters. English letters and underscore ( _ ) can be used. Turkish characters ı, ö, ü, ç, ğ, ş must not be used. • TFSF will not be responsible for potential problems related to the uploading of the works.
